Inboard Boat Trailer
Japco pump on inboard?
I have an inboard boat with a japco pump. Just wondering if its possible to have the connections in the wrong place. i currently have the inlet on the top of the pump with the outlet at the bottom (looking from the back of the pump). Havin probs with the priming of the water through the engine when first placed in the water after sitting for about a week or two on a trailer
There is an eccentric cam inside the pump to compress the impeller blades. the blades will flip so the pump can work in either direction of rotation check to see if the cam closes the blades on the discharge side of your installation. The pump blades should fold or close up on the outlet side and flip open on the intake side.
At slow rpm your pump is a positive displacement pump (this type is self priming) at high rpm it operates as a centrifugal pump and the blades make minimal contact with the pump body
reasons for for your problem could be
1. air leak anywhere in the raw water system air is easier to pump than water make sure there aren't any
2.Worn impeller blades if the blades are worn too much they will not make a good contact with the pump body and you don't get good suction
3.Believe it or not in sandy conditions the cam can wear more than the impeller . Like with sand paper the grit will wear down what your sanding but the paper backing will be undamaged

BOAT AND TRAILER 4 SALE
Yeah, my parents neighbor has one, but its because he needs a gooseneck for his travel trailer that they use fairly often and have a boat trailer as well. People who buy big trucks ‘just because’ will hopefully starve because of gas prices.
