I need a job!! Help!!?
I spent 13 years fishing offshore commercially out of Mass, lots of wheelhouse time, 100 ton Master's near coastal, STCW, TWIC card. I moved to Florida to find a job. I would like to start at entry and gain knowledge. I need to make money before I can get my AB or add endorsements. I've applied for yachts, supply boats, tug boats, head hunters. Internet, phone calls, applications. Fla, Texas, LA, AL. I have a great work ethic and great resume. It's been six weeks and not even an interview. Any ideas?
I'm 33, the perfect age for a new industry- still healthy yet knowledgeable and mature.
The maritime industry was hiring people left and right about a year ago. But ever since the economy took a dive it seems like there's a freeze on hiring. I work for a tugboat company out of Baltimore Md. They are still building alot of boats but the word on te street is that they have pages of people trying to get over there, so I doubt it would do any good to give you there number, besides, they don't pay travel so it would be on you to get to Baltimore or Philly, they will get you the rest of the way. I was a Commercial Fisherman for years also. Things just ain't what they used to be in that industry. Good Luck to you, Hope you find a job real soon.
