Grady White
Need to "re-christen" a boat I bought, but there's a problem?
Bought this old saltwater fishing boat, a Grady White, to take
to Florida when I move from crappy Xenia, Ohio, and I want
to change her name to "Rocky Fjord" after my dog Rockford
whom I "passed on" Valentine's Day. The problem is I'm not
a believer so I can't call it "re-Christening," also I'm not an
atheist per se. I just don't care if there's a God or No-god, and
willing to let him or no-him take care of hisself or his non-self.
So what do I call it when I change her/his (non sexist really)
name, and break a bottle of bubbly across the stern or bow,
is it? Help me out here, pals, or I'll flip aquarter, you call it!
The superstition is that it's bad luck to change the name of a boat. Ship owners do it all the time though.
There is nothing Christian about the wine and the boat naming. The wine originally was an offering to the gods of the sea.
If you have to register the name in Florida, use the new name, paint out the old and put the new one on. That's it.
