freshwater fishing boats
What size fishing pole for general freshwater fishing?
I want to buy a freshwater fishing pole, but just need to know what size I should get. I'm not going to be fishing for a particulary kind of fish, just for general purpose fishing, NOT ON A BOAT or anything.. And I dont want a fishing pole that's not TOO small, so I'll still beable to catch a big fish if one happens to bite.

I get to work with this question all the time..that happens when you sell this stuff..
First, the how much can you afford thing.. that affects the way the rod works in your hand. The more money the lighter the rod.
Second, for "most" fishing here in the USA and Canada where I fish I end up picking up a rod that has "Med. 1/8 to 3/4" printed just above the cork of the handle. Why? The action, Med. lets me know I can expect to have the rod work well for smaller fish and for the 5 and 6 lb Pike and Bass I want to hook onto. There are Med. Light and Med Heavy rods as well.. I like the standard Medium rod. You get to pick
a 6'6"(Med. 1/8 to 5/8) like my wife likes or the 7' I like. We use one piece rods that cost me in the $50 to $69 range. They have 9 "eyes" and the tip so that the line uses all of the rod to fight the fish.
As stated, the ugly sticks work, they are heavy so spend an extra $10. to get the ugly stick lite if you can find them if you go that way.
I like the Tactix by Berkley and the Bionx.
Yes there are a lot more and "better" ones starting at $100 and going up very fast. This is all figuring your in "America" , Canada, Mexico and such.
