what is a good fishing boat for a first time buyer?
I've never owned a boat before, and am looking for a good fishing boat. I am looking to spend less than $2,000 and am looking for something without a gas powered motor. I want it to seat like 4 or 6. where do i look? what can i expect in owning a boat? what should i look for, and what should i avoid? I'll be using it on lakes/reservoirs in colorado. links and pics would be awesome! I'll vote your answer the best! thank you!
Here on the internet is the best place to look. I would recommend a good alum. flat bottom Jon boat. With 4-6 people fishing from one boat to me that's a lot of people in a small boat fishing. Be sure to get a good wide one, the wider the better. That makes it more stable. 4 people, may be a 14ft, any more I would recommend at least a 16ft. Some Jon boats have short sides they are for ponds, be sure to get one with deep sides they are for Lakes & Reservoirs. (there are people with large boats that kick up large wakes and could swamp you, so be careful) I started out with a 12ft LoneStar deep V, went up to a 20ft Champion w/225, through several boats. Now I am back to a 14ft Starcraft deep V. I would rather have a16-18ft Sim-i-V myself. Even in the 20ft more than 2 people fishing at the same time seemed to be crowded. I would prefer a welded over rivieted, if buying a rivieted or any used boat be sure to put it on the water for a few minutes to see if it leaks. I hope this helps. Have fun fishing, I DO!

Generally it's not bad. If you're particularly trying to 'paint a picture', I'd expect a little more description – after all you don't really tell us very much about what it looks like inside the boat house, or the atmosphere, except that it's dusty with cobwebs. In fact this part confused me:
The stool looked like it was fine, actually, it looked new. The fishing pole on the other hand, didn’t look very inviting.
Why say that the stool was fine? Why wouldn't it be fine? I think what you're trying to say is that the stool, new and clean, looked out of place in its old and dirty surroundings. If you're focussing on painting a picture, you'd do well to describe the stool too – although be very economical in your words as long descriptions can get boring. The gleaming chrome stool looked out of place in the dusty old boat house. Better than "the stool seemed fine" don't you think?
Also the fishing pole didn't look very inviting… Well personally I have never found a fishing pole inviting. Beds are inviting, and chairs, and homes, and outstretched arms, and doorways… A fishing pole is just a fishing pole. Do you mean that it made you not want to touch it? How about this: I reached out absently to touch the fishing pole, but something moved near my fingers – a spider running up its length – and I saw that it was covered in a thick layer of dust and grime and withdrew my hand sharply.
Ok, that's not the greatest sentence in the world – I'm in a hurry here and I've got my own writing in which to agonize over every word – but I hope you see what I am trying to do. You can paint much clearer pictures by choosing more vivid words to describe a few important details.

EDIT:
One more thing too – I think perhaps you're trying too hard to 'paint a picture' around every line of dialogue. Great dialogue is very important in a good book too, and you need to make sure it speaks for itself; you don't have to explain the thinking behind every line! Like this:
“Please?” I figured if I begged maybe he’d give in and just say yes.
We know why people say please – there's no need to tell us! Of course, sometimes it is appropriate to include thoughts or action to break dialogue up, but if you go overboard like this it becomes quite tedious to read. On the whole, your dialogue is pretty good, so you don't need all this stuff!
