fiberglass ski boats
What makes 30% of narrowboat hirers so irresponsible?
If you hired a 20 ton lorry, you'd be really cautious and drive slowly, you'd worry if you hit anything, and you'd certainly be aware of the danger.
How come many people hire narrow boats and set off as if they are trying to water ski ?
When they bump your boat, they laugh ?
Private boats cost up to £100K you know ? How would they like it if i bumped thier £100K car and laughed about it, then drove off waving at them
I've just no clue about the midset they get themselves into.
Any ideas ?
i see this all the time with our local hiring fleets and would say it applies to about 30% of hirers, imagine if 30% of lorry hirers behaved the same.
i sometimes think all hire narrowboats should be made of fibreglass, that would mean less damage to privateers when they bump, and make the hire companies train the hirers more because the boats wouldn't last 2 minutes if they were to bump them as they do with steel boats.
The answer is very dry I'm afraid.
They don't have experience, don't know what can happen and are embarrased when something does.
Fortunately, the price of a narrowboat isn't as relevant as with a car. They depreciate less and are substantially less fragile - they are designed to take some abuse. Most damage you can rectify with a brush.
The difficulty in the equation is that if these people needed licenses then the revenue they currently provide would cease and would mean that a number of waterways may have to close.
All that said, someone damaging something of yours is frustrating at beat - and the cost is irrelevant. It might be worth having an open bait box with maggots in and whenever someone hits you, feign wobbling to the point that you throw them in to the offenders boat. It'll give you some satisfaction at least and might persuade the owners to provide some tuition on the fourth time of happening.

Fiberglass Boat Repair and Jet Ski Repair in Tarpon Springs, Florida
Tips on raising a sunken boat?
I'm trying to find my 14 ft ski boat, it sank in about 15 to 20 feet of water, at least a half mile from the nearest shore. How do you go about raising it once its found? Can you hook a line on it, then try to pull it with a larger boat? If you did that, would the forward motion bring it to the surface? Any other ideas? I'm trying to do this with a few friends, rather than hiring divers, ect...
Its a fiberglass boat that weighs aprox 1200lb, incluing the outboard.
Air bags filled from Scuba tanks will raise the boat. (They have amazing lifting power) From there, you simply pump out the boat. You would need a gas powered pump (available at rental stores) if you plan on doing it off shore, which is probably the way to go, as towing in a half sunken boat is not easy. Oh, patching any holes will be necessary as well.

Camas leaders should consider a full ban on jet skis on Lacamas Lake. In my opinion, they are all noisy and some are dangerous as they veer ever so close to vulnerable skiers on the lake, in search of riding a bigger wake.
The council should also consider a partial ban on all motorized boats over 5 mph. This would allow for a far more peaceful and tranquil lake setting throughout much of the year. For example, how about just allowing ski boats on the lake only during the summer months of June, July and August?
Precedents have been set on most all other lake bodies of water in Clark County. Vancouver Lake, far bigger than Lacamas has an all out ban on any motorized boats. Battle Ground Lake also bans motor boats.
Lacamas Lake is just too small for big, noisy power boats.
My proposal story is decent, but the full engagement story is the real story. Especially in reference to the whole “Father’s Blessing” debate. I was considering posting it on here, but after about page 3 I decided to just post it on my blog and link to it here. I’ll include the proposal below FWIW:My friends and I planned a trip to Lake Powell. We were all going down for a week. We were about 6 couples, a couple singles, and my dad (the captain), a houseboat, two ski boats, two sit-down PWCs, and a stand-up JetSki. It was a blast. I was a little stressed and probably more irritable than I should have been, but that was probably because I had a diamond ring in my duffel bag. I was so gun shy I didn’t know if I could bring it out again.Friday I asked A if she wanted to go on a hike. She said she was down, and we decided that the evening was the best time to hike because it was too hot during the day. As the sun was starting to set we took a PWC across the channel, parked it in a small cove, and hiked up the slickrock. We didn’t hike very far, but stopped at a spot that overlooks Halls Creek Bay and Halls Crossing Marina. We just sat there while I tried to work up the courage to possibly get rejected again. Finally after about an hour I reached into my sock, put the ring on my pinky, and shifted onto my knee. I looked her in the eyes, told her she was my best friend, that I loved her, and that I wanted to spend eternity with her. She told me I was her best friend and that she would love to.Credits.
