Why will my boat not start?
When I turn the key the solonoid starts to click, but the starter will not turn and the boat will not turn on. When I hook jumper cables from the battery to the starter it spins and turns the engine over. All of the wires are fine and the grounds are ok too. I replaced the solonoid and it still does not work. The solonoid is putting 12 volts out and into the starter, but the starter will not work when it is connected to the solonoid. What is wrong with the engine and what can I do to fix it?
My boat is a 1976 Fiberform with a 150 HP Mercury Outboard.
You need a new solenoid. Just because you are getting 12 volts does not mean you are getting any amps to the starter. The fact that you by passed the solenoid and the starter spun tells me that your battery is good and the solenoid is bad.
