Do people in Britain visit any of their local lakes with their own "motor boats" or "speed boats"?
how about Jet Skis? is this a popular thing to do in Britain? (like it is in America)
why for that and how this is so popular in America? since when for Britain and since when for America this has been a popular past time?
why dont more people do this? as it cant be that expensive to buy a little motor boat and at least go fishing or water skiing?
which ages do most people do these sorts of things and how many lakes and rivers are there where you are? which region? (if care to share) when started this as being a popular thing and how about now?

HOW MUCH FOR A DECENT MOTOR BOAT THERE?
you gotta be pretty rich to a) own a boat, and b) keep a boat. mooring is expensive and most people don't have houses with space enough to keep a boat on a trailer - land is scarce here!
from going round the Southampton Boat Show for years (though I won't claim to know much about boats) I'd say the price for a decent (new) boat would be in the region of £10,000 or more... for example: http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/ASH256
edit: I'd also say that places to go boating might be hard to find. I've been looking for places to go kayaking for a while, and its not easy to find places in the South of England as a lot of rivers or lakes are privately owned. Some are part of parks that don't allow watersports. There's a kayaking club near me on the River Itchen but their fees are too high and my spare time is too little
