Types of small fast boats?

What are some Types of small fast boats under 18 ft that can do over 40 mph?

Max,
You are just a little speed freak aren't you? I however, don't think you realize how fast 40mph is on the water. For example: The average speed to pull a 175 lb person skiing is only about 20 to 25 mph. Most production pleasure boats with recommended power will cruise about 30-35 mph. 40 mph and over starts putting you into the high performance 4,000 rpm range - which as mentioned before, puts you in another $300-$400 a day fuel for fun situation.

What you need is something like this: (only used)

http://bayliner.com/page.aspx/pageid/132731/pmid/312392/180-Bowrider.aspx

Watch the video - check out the features. . . most importantly, tell me you don't love it, and notice
it has a 90 HP DFI, Mercury Optimax. - Max, that is only about 20 gallons (about $80) of fuel for an average day of great fun on the water. . .

Now, go look for a good used on similiar to that:
Here's a link:

http://www.boatangel.com/donated.boat.sales.buy.used.boats.auction.ebay.htm

Go there. . . Shop till you drop. . . Just don't buy anything until you see it, taste it, feel it, and take it on a on the water test run. . . Make sure you know what you are buying, before you buy it. And remember - pictures can be very deceiving.

WANT SMALL & FAST ? Check out this little sucker - If you weigh less then 180 lbs, it will take you over 50 mph across the water with a little old 35hp motor.

http://www.boatdesigns.com/10-Super-Spartan-3-point-hydoplane/products/362/

(and you can build it for under a grand. . . add motor - and go, go, go. . . all day on 10 gallons of gas)

Junior Sailing NewsletterJanuary, 2011“Training Macomb County’s Future Sailors”Happy New Year from Junior Sailing! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a very Happy New Year!We expect 2011 to be a great year. There are lots of things in the works and here are just a few:Jr. Sailing T-Shirt Design Contest: any Jr. Sailor is invited to design our 2011 Program T-Shirts.We know the kids are creative and imaginative (remember the story about “Oojay”), and since last year’s shirts got a mediocre reception, we decided to have the kids design this year’s shirts. Submissions are due by February 28th and will be judged by the Board of Directors at our March meeting. Your design must fit on the back of a shirt and submit it on an 8X11 piece of paper. Our logo (the “L” sailboat and NSSC burgee) must appear on the shirt, preferably on the front left.Winterfest, 2011: Back by popular demand is the DRYA 2011 Winterfest at DYC on Saturday, February 26. Please invite your friends and neighbors to Winterfest 2011 on Belle Isle at the Detroit Yacht Club. ALL ARE WELCOME but the Junior Sailors will go first. After the kids are done, the adults will have the opportunity to try their hand at indoor sailing in an Opti or O’pen Bic. T. This is open to anyone wanting to go. You do NOT have to be part of a Jr. Sailing program. If you thought iceboating was fast and fun, have you tried sailing in the pool at DYC? Well, it’s not exactly fast (especially if you’re weighing more than 120 lbs) but it is TONS of FUN!!! If you have an industrial fan (a.k.a. “indoor wind turbine”) to loan out for the day, please contact Bill Heller (DRYA/DYC) at Boating Party: Jim and Kathy Rodgers (past commodore of NSSC and his lady) cordially invite all junior sailors and their families to join them for an ice boating party at their home in Chesterfield Township on Anchor Bay. The date is Sunday, February 27: time: “after church”. Here’s your chance to see and try ice boating! There are 10 ice boats at their house already with more expected!! Mrs. Rodgers puts out a HUGE spread of homemade soups and chilis. Bring a dish to pass. Dress for the weather and c’mon out. Please contact Nickie at 586-484-9688 for directions.“RAISE THE PEARL”: We are kicking off a fundraiser with the goal of raising $5000 to purchase a replacement for the “Black Pearl”, the 420 that retired last season. Please consider soliciting your friends and family members for donations. We are a 501c(3) non-profit charitable organization and your donations are tax deductible (please contact your tax advisor). Anyone may make a charitable donation to Charles “Skip” Boston Fund, a fund set up to memorialize “Skip” Boston, but the exact purpose to be finalized; Lolly Boston Memorial Fund, which is solely for purchase of boats for the program; or to North Star Junior Sailing directly, which is a Michigan non-profit 501(C)3 Corporation to help the program. Thank you for your consideration and your generous support is deeply appreciated.2011 Registration Open House: Sunday, May 22 from 1-3pm is the date and time. Come join us to welcome prospective sailors for 2011 season and visit with returning sailors. Of course, we will be kicking off registrations for the 2011 season. Know any adults or kids who want to learn to sail? Bring them with you! The summer program starts the week of June 20th.“BOATER TO BOATER” SALE will be held this year on Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22 from 10am -4pm. Table rentals available; donations of sellable items accepted as well. Stop by to shop for boating equipment (power and sail) at great prices! Our own 420 Regatta will be July 12-13. As always, we are looking for sponsors and race committee help. If you can help, please email us at Spring Cleaning: The Boater-to-Boater Sale is going to be held this year on May 21-22. Please remember to set your old treasures aside as you begin your spring cleaning. Pass the word to your friends and any boating-related businesses you patronize too! Table rental available. Either sell your own equipment or donate it for us to selll. Either way, we are a 501C(3) charitable organization. Got Dry Suits???…There is lots of discussion out in the Detroit area regarding high school sailing. Currently, on the east side of the state, there are only 3 high school sailing programs in existence: Grosse Pointe North (sailing out of GPYC), Grosse Pointe South (sailing out of CSYC), and Grosse Isle (sailing out of GIYC). Detroit Country Day School is launching their sail club in conjunction with Pontiac Yacht Club. North Star Junior Sailing has been in discussion with DeLaSalle Collegiate (alma mater to NSSC’s own extraordinary sailors: Chuck Drummond, Dan VandenBossche, and Joe Periard!) and we have contacts at DLS’ sister school, Regina. As the school resumes for the New Year, we will be planning Parent-sailor/ prospective Sailor information meetings at both schools. Training begins in April. High School Sailing is a co-ed sport with Spring and Fall Seasons. (Junior Sailing has only a summer season). What a great opportunity for us to introduce high school kids and their families to the fun and art of sailing! It’s not too late… Consider giving that adult or special child a gift certificate for a “Learn-to-Sail” program.
