Im going in the Coast Guard as a BM, what should i expect me job's duties will intell?
Tell me the good and the bad as a BM
You are probably joining the Coast Guard as an undesignated seaman recruit instead of as a Boatswain's Mate unless they've changed things. BM is a proud rating, and even designation as a BMSN has to be earned. Many people (even experienced sailors) call all personnel in the deck division "bosun's mates" but in fact only the petty officers and the very top performing seaman in that division have actually earned the designation.
Deck divisions (1st Division, usually) are all about keeping the ship seaworthy, clean, and safe. Inport, they chip paint with hammers, use deck grinders, needleguns, etc to prepare the surfaces for priming and painting. Inport they also perform anchor maintenance, grease standing rigging, paint the sides of the ship from bosun's chairs over the sides or from floats between the ship and the pier. Underway, their time is mostly consumed with standing pilothouse and lookout watches and training for special evolutions like underway replenishment, towing other ships, precision anchoring. Additionally, experienced BMs are trained as coxwains and bow hooks for the small boats - which also must be carefully maintained so that coasties can rescue men overboard and visit ports with inadequate pier space, or conduct drug interdiction inspections of suspicious vessels. They are also often selected to be trained as SAR swimmers.
BMs are also the rigging specialists aboard ship whenever some heavy cargo or repair part needs to be brought aboard. Junior seaman of all ratings perform 90 days of mess duty soon after reporting aboard, during which they help out in the galleys, serve food, work in the sculleries, take out trash, or whatever else the supply Chief assigns them.
Boatswain's Mates are the only true seaman. They take greater pride in the ship's appearance than anyone. If assigned to smaller cutters or boats, they really have tremendous responsibilities thrust upon them soon.

PS - It is very rare and foolish to paint the sides of a cutter/ship while underway. The wind blows the paint everwhere but where you want it.
