cuddy cabin power
What kind of boat can I buy which is cheap, safe and legal for use in the U.K sea?
I live by a marina and harbour. I would liek to get a boat for use say once a week just to cruise around the area. I don't want to leave it in the marina as it costs so much so I would like one which I can pull around on a trailer.
Jetskis- PWCs are banned in the area and obviously the UK seas are choppy. Would a £4000-£5000 2nd hand speed boat do the job or would these be banned too? Would thesebe safe enough for use in the sea?
Any other suggestions as to what boats are able to be pulled about on a trailer, are legal and safe?

If gary's answer hasnt put you off boating before you start then i would look for a cuddy cabin dayfisher such as a wilson flier or shetland.Speedboats are only stable when they are under power if at sea and it sounds like you are wanting a boat for such? I have been sea fishing from the east coast of yorkshire for the past 15 years and also like to just drop boat in and have a cruise up and down coast from time to time.Im on my 4th boat and its a wilson flier that i gave £2000 for complete with trailer and engine,its a doddle to launch and retrieve,VERY stable even when choppy,and it goes like the clappers if you want it to,and it was the cheapest of the 4 that iv had! You can launch a boat like this all around the uk using marina/harbour slipways or certain parts of beaches,just pay the launch fee.You might be asked for proof of 3rd party insurance wich you will require but its not expensive.Before buying a boat you should be aware that they cost a fortune to run and maintain,expect around 3-5mpg from any outboard that has decent horsepower! I only get 3mpg from my 85hp.For your own safety and anyone you take with you take the RYA powerboat level 2 course first,well worth the small money that may keep you safe.Happy cruising.
