What are some good off shore sailboat cruisers?
Perferably 36-42 feet long and under 250K.
Able 42,
Alden 38, 43, 44,
Bowman 36
Cambria 40,
Durbeck 46
Hallberg-Rassy, 36, 38, 39, 41,42, 45,
Hinkley 36, 38, 40, 42
Little Harbor 42
Malo 36, 38, 39,
Oyster 42, 45,
Ocean Cruising 42
My personal experience is with a Hinkley 36 and the Ocean Cruising 42 (also a Hinkley design)
All of the above are true and "ideal" bluewater - ocean passage vessels... I think the Hinkley 36 and the Ocean Cruising 42 have been the most comfortable, seaworthiness, and best performance in all weather (and sea) conditions that I have ever been sailing on - but there are a lot of wonderful vessels out there... both these vessels have very good storage space and storage tank size.
But... just so you know... I was on a 42' Catamaran this past year for a trip to Barbados and back (I am in Galveston) and it blew me away... It was indeed the very most comfortable and roomy of any sailing vessel I have ever been on. And indeed is my next choice... (Where I thought I had built my last boat - this changed my mind, and so now, I am building one.
Reminds me of my parents with the "cell phone"... they went for years shunning my recommendations to get 'em one... then a couple years ago they finally did... now they have rid them selves of their "land-line" phone... and wondering how they every lived with out their cell phones.
I feel the same way about the ocean passage catamaran.

Why are Ranger sailboats cheap?
It seems like foot for foot they are cheaper. I don't know anything about sail boats, but I've been looing at prices for a cruiser-racer.
If you want to throw out a name of one 20-30 feet that you think is an awesome value, I'm all ears. I'd like to get something fast that I can spend some time in.

a ranger 26 iis a good boat, fast with its phrf rating. if you can find a pearson flyer, they are relatively inexpensive, not much of a cruiser though. i have weekended on a few before.
if you know nothing about sailboats you should join your local yacht club and sail with other folks before you go and buy a boat. racing my not be your cup of tea.
