Riverhawk Boats for tailwater fishing?

I am interested in a boat with a small motor for fishing tailwaters in TN. There are several models of the Riverhawk to choose from and was wondering if anyone has any experience and could point me in the right direction.

How to troll for trout?

Let's say I don't know ANYTHING about fishing. If I were to go trolling in a small boat with a trolling motor what do I need to know?

What line weight? What lure? Any leader? Do I need a flasher? Weights? Swivels?

If you can list the equipment I will need.
I will choose a best answer =)

here is an answer from yesterday:

In late winter early spring you don't need to get the baits down more than the lakes top fifteen feet. But, finding what depth the fish are holding around at (which will be where the oxygen level is best, there is a food supply and the temperature of the water is best suited for them) is (other than mating and eating) the most important thing they do.
When my two sons were too young to cast, we would use three rods to find the depth they were at (before I got my first graph) by trolling different depth diving baits. Once a fish hit one of them we would all use that style and size to get to the same depth. It's the same thing as what weight to hang in front of your lures or baits try different weights till you find the right combo it will work best to change directions, change speeds and change baits until you find a perfect combination and they are regularly hitting what you are trolling. Trout will be where food and oxygen is most prevalent and that could change hourly.... if they stop biting go a little deeper to find them. This time of year the water gets too hot for them. The nearer to the surface as the day gets on and the sun gets higher in the sky, the water temp heats up at deeper and deeper levels. I found that bigger spinners with a little smaller hooks (I would change them) and every so often, while trolling, allow the rod tip to move toward the back of the boat so the bait slows in the water. It will allow for a chasing fish to catch up and prompts more bites you might have missed otherwise. Lastly holding your rod tip just above the water you will drop your bait the distance (new depth)from where the tip is while in rod holders too. You should have your drags set at easy but not allowing line off while the boat moves and you should tighten down the drag as the boat slows to a stop while one is on. Never allow slack in the line NEVER. Trout have tongues and they can spit hooks about as good (actually better than) as any fish I know.
if you are an accomplished angler I prefer levelwind reels on a medium light rod. If not, a rear drag spinning set-up will suffice but a front drag spinning reel is too hard to mess with when adjusting drag during a fight. New four to six pound low visibilty line, a decent assortment of spinners, deep diving crank baits and a net.
go for it

Purchased a used 14 foot lavro in 1976. Sold this to my friend's son who still has and uses it frequently in the Oregon rivers. In 1979 I purchased a new flyfisher model 16 foot straight from your plant. Since I was a teacher, I spent all my summers on the Klickitat. Stopped fishing the Klick about 10 years ago and used the boat with a motor fishing the Columbia. This summer two game warden friends asked me to go on a 3 day trip on the Klickitat. I had not rowed the boat in over 10 years so I was a little apprehensive about this. They had an aluminum boat. I had all the camping gear stored in my boat (stoves, tents, sleeping bags, food, etc. I am 63 now and out of shape. Again, apprehensive. After the first 100 yards it all came back. We camped three nights on the river. I forgot how much fun floating down a river like the Klick can be. We ran into several guides that had to take out and walk their boats around rough areas. The old lavro just drifted by these experts with no problem while they were falling down trying to pull their boats around the bad areas. They were not Lavros. Can't wait for next year. We have several trips scheduled. Great boats!

The two terms are used interchangeably by the general public, BUT, there is an official distinction.

"Actuator" is the more general term for a device that outputs mechanical work. Motors, engines, and pneumatic/hydraulic cylinders are all examples of actuators.

The distinction is the source of energy. If the source of energy is electrical, the device is a motor. If the source of energy is thermal/chemical/nuclear, we call the device an engine.

One common use that goes against this distinction is "motorboat". It really should be called an engineboat. There isn't a single motor aboard most motorboats.
