caravelle ski boat
mercruiser 350 will it pull a skier ok?
I am looking into buying a 1991 wellcraft eclipse 232 with a MERCRUISER 350 MAGNUM 260 HP, 2nd GENERATION ALPHA 1 in it. my husband is concerned it will have a hard time pulling a skier. we had a 20ft caravelle with a 302 and it barely did it. We know the motor is bigger, but its also a bigger boat. anyone with knowledge it would be greatly appriciated.
I had an 87 Wellcraft 23' Eclipse with the same engine but mine had the 4 barrel carb making it the 270 hp. It had abundant power for skiing, but the deep V hull does throw a large wake and even the smooth water in the middle wasn't very smooth, making skiing more challenging than behind a flat bottom ski boat. When starting a skier it went bow up a lot since it was a cuddy and all the passengers tended to be in the back. With the bow pointing at the sky, acceleration wasn't real strong until the bow started to come down. I added a whale tail to the cavitation plate on the out-drive which really helped a lot to level the boat more quickly and also allowed planing at a lower speed. Take it out and run it to get a feel for the boat. Mine also liked to lay on one side of the deep V hull even when the passenger loading was fairly balanced. As I think back about it, trim tabs would have solved all of these problems. Good luck.

Just recently read about this somewhere (sorry I don't remember where). While the state wants you to believe that it affects your driving record, the truth is that the way the states laws are written, it shouldn't. When challenged, the states ALWAYS back down and remove the points from the driving record!

1. Find and purchase houseboat rental
a. Look online or purchase timeshare
2. Load travel items and person’s going in truck
a. Food, sleeping wear, etc.
3. Hook up ski boat to haul down
a. Check brake and signal lights
4. Google quickest directions to Bull Frog Marina, Lake Powell, Utah
a. Print off directions
5. Drive to Bull Frog Bay
6. Unload boat and gear
7. Find houseboat and load gear
8. Haul ski boat behind houseboat to desired location
a. Tie with ropes to appropriate hauling hooks
9. Find appropriate spot to dock houseboat
a. Use Lake Powell maps to find a small canyon to park in
10. Anchor houseboat down
a. Use four side ropes to tie down
11. Tie up ski boat
a. Use smaller ropes to tie to large anchor ropes
