caravelle ski boat
I earlier asked about a Caravelle Boat, I now want to know if anyone knows if a Chapparell is better than the?
Caravelle as far as boats are concerned
Having owned Chaparrals for over 20 years I think you're going to know where my answer lies before I even give it, right? Chaparral builds a great boat.
Our previous boat was a 2550SX sport cuddy built in 89 with a 454 Merc. This boat was great for cruising, skiing, etc and she maxed out on speed for us at 62 mph. The boat actually was able to be documented and came complete with an enclosed head and one burner gas stove so she even qualified under IRS guidelines as a 2nd home meaning we could write off the interest paid on her. We kept her until 2004 and sold her looking virtually brand new for well above the recommended value (of course it helped keeping her boatel berthed for all the years).
Our current boat is a 330 Signature cruiser with twin Volvo Penta inboards. Quite honestly this boat has one of the nicest cabin layouts of any cruiser on the market. Forward berth, large galley and dining area, head with 6'2" of head room, plenty of storage and what we lovingly have nicknamed "the cave" which is a rear stateroom with a slightly less than queen sized bed. The exterior cockpit seating is great and can seat 8-10 comfortably as well. Lastly the ride is phenomenal as it's smooth (weighs in at 14,000 lbs) and quiet (thanks to the inboards).
Chaparral has set their sites on going after one manufacturer and passing them in sales...Sea Ray. They have so far been lucky and able to get many Sea Ray designers and techs who were let go to come aboard with them and incorporate some of the Sea Ray items into their boats. Our marina and dealership is right next door to what had been the largest Sea Ray dealer in the US. Sales of the Chaparrals have continued thru these economic downtimes while the Sea Ray dealer's, well, let's just say they've gone down the toilet.
Caravelle is a good boat but Chaparral is an excellent boat and one that you cannot go wrong with at all...whether new or used.
