I have a 1990 19FT Celebrity Ski Boat, It goes About 31 mph on the water with 5 people. IS that right?
I have been told that a friend had a similar boat and it was brand new and it only went 35-40 on the water. i am wondering if a 1990 Celebrity Ski Boat with a 4.3L mercrusier should go faster, Its been on lake a bunch of times now since i have had it and 31 is whats its reading, i could possibly be off. i dont know, this is my 1st boat and i put 5,000 dollars to get it, so i am nervous as hell, I dont think its taking on water, because i pull the plug when i pull it from the water and not alot comes out, please give me any and all opinions. help help!
Top end speed is always a function of the pitch of your prop. Comparing one boat to another without considering the pitch of the prop is not a valid comparison.
The pitch of the prop determines how far the boat is pushed forward for every rotation of the prop. A lower pitch prop will give you better accelleration out of the hole (and consequently more pull for skiers and boarders trying to get up). But a lower pitch prop will yield a slower top end speed. And vice versa, a higher pitch prop sacrifices your low-end accelleration but gives you a higher top speed.
So take a look at your prop. It should have two numbers stamped somewhere on it. One is the diameter of the prop the other is the pitch. The pitch number will usually be between 15 and 21 but could be higher or lower.
If you want better top end, you should visit a boat shop or boat prop shop and purchase a higher pitch prop.

I am with you 100%… I went out to do some photography for the “youth lake day” and, although it was fun to ride around on 2 ski boats and a sea-doo all day, when I got home, I was totally warn out and burn in various places I had obviously missed by the spf 75 I put on.
