How do I find the previous owner of a boat with just the boat registration number?
Acquired the boat at a junkyard for a couple bucks, but problem is there are no papers. All I have is the registration number on side of boat. How would I go about getting this boat in my name?
The junkyard should have given you a "Bill of Sale". They are required by law to do this. With the Bill of sale, you can take it along with the registration number and have the boat registered and titled in your name. Otherwise, looking up the previous owner won't do you any good whatsoever.
If you don't have a "Bill of Sale" from the junkyard, you are totally out of luck, so you need to go back to them and get one.
There is no "lost and found" claim nor can you make an "abandoned boat" claim once you have possession of the boat. As if, if that boat is in your possession without a "Bill of Sale" it will be considered stolen.
