Should I finance a used boat purchase with my 0% interest rate credit card or get a loan from a bank at 10%?
I am contemplating purchasing a used boat which is over 15 years old. I am looking at the best way to finance this purchase and need some input. The only loan I have is a student loan for $4K and the only credit card I have has a balance of $11K with 0% interest for the next 6 months, and then a 8% rate after that. I have a few other credit cards which send me access checks with 0% fee and interest for one year that I could use to finance the boat. I would use $11K in an access check to finance the boat at 0% interest on a second credit card which would increase my credit card debt to $22K with 0 interest for awhile and then 8% on both eventually. However, I believe I can pay off these cards before any interest kicks in. The second option is to get a boat or personal loan for the $11K and pay about 10% interest. I would intend to pay the loan as quickly as possible as well. My question is, should I finance the boat using $11K of credit card at 0% interest or get a bank loan?
I did the credit card thing on my used car...my rate was 4.9%...it was cheaper tjhan a used car loan. Consider this make sure your rate is not a variable rate and make sure you are never late on payments because your interest rate can go up to 30% with one late payment! remember you can alwys do a balance transfer if you get a better credit card offer in the mail!

i am aware to check for leaks but im more worried about motor issues.
Okay - here is a question that we all need to look at with subjective eyes. This boat is a $1000 boat, so I do not expect it to be in like new condition.
The motor looks a little rough, like it has been stored in the water with the motor not completely out of the water. May just need cleaning, but check for corrosion.
What I would suggest is a boat ride to try out the motor and steering. Also check any electronics, lights, bilge pump, etc. Look the boat hull over, look for cracks, damage to the fiberglass and parts missing (screw holes but nothing there). Check Battery or batteries for age and condition. If the boat fits your need and appears to run and operate well then make an offer on it.
Make sure you take a boaters safety course regardless if the state requires it.
Be prepared to spend money, have the motor looked at and the water pump impeller replaced, new plugs and wires, new fuel line. Have the trailer looked at - bearings checked and repacked, tires checked and replaced if needed and the lights. Do that all now and you will enjoy the boat and trailer knowing that all 'SHOULD" work the way it should. And just remember the two happiest days to owning a boat - The day you buy it and the day you sell it!

For some reason I am reminded of the “boat people” who managed to get out of Vietnam in the late 1970s. From what I heard, the price of a place on the boat was 10 ounces of gold.

I think I found the photo on the Ahoy website. The site has an interesting new set up. I see that prospective buyers need to register before they can see the current list of boats for sale. I wonder if they still need to pay the deposit up front as well? I don't think I know of any other business that asks for money up front like this.
I'm not sure if you will get many people beating a path to your door with such an obscure link to your boat – you might be lucky
