Ideas on what bridesmaids could carry instead of flowers?
I am doing a nautical theme for my wedding in June. The ceremony is going to be close to the water, my colors are marine blue and clover green and I am using sailboats, anchors and lighthouses for centerpieces at the reception. I am trying to avoid having flowers at all costs because I find it ridiculous to spend a ton of money on something that is going to die by the end of the day...so, I am trying to come up with alternative ideas for my bridesmaids to carry instead of flowers. Any ideas?
One of best friends, who married last year, had a very similar wedding. Nautical / ocean theme, with a very similar color scheme. If it helps, her wedding was beautiful, so I am sure yours will be too !
Anyway, she ran across the same issue. What do her bridesmaids carry? I actually came up with the solution so I am sorta proud of myself-
- Lighthouse Lanterns !
We came across some really cute silver/metal lighthouse lanterns, then put tea lights inside and lit them, and then each bridesmaid walked down the aisle. The glass that surrounded the candle acted as protection, and then the bridesmaid each held it out in front of her has she walked down. As a precautionary measure, we wrapped a portion of the handle in layers of tape, that way the handle wouldn't get too hot.
We came across the lanterns at Target and they were only 3-5 bucks each. I don't know if they will have them again, but especially around that time of June, I am sure that craft and party stores like Micheals or Party City might have LIghthouse/beach themed stuff.

The Perrys are a good class to have in concept, and the LCS probably SHOULD be a Perry replacement. But, IIRC (and I'm flying a bit by the seat of my pants so my apologies if I'm factually wrong) they were originally a coast guard cutter design jury rigged for blue water naval service. From talking to several people who have served aboard them the quality of life for a blue water deployment on them is, mildly, poor. But a true FF or FFG escort is what I think the navy needs as opposed to the LCS. But that ship has apparently set sail already . . .

I've only read 3 of them. And thought Slaughterhouse 5 was great. Awakening and Red Badge didn't have too much pizzazz. All are (I think) written in pretty straightforward language–except for Kesey.
Though it takes several generations for rivers to be returned to their normal, almost pollution-free states, it still takes a village to respect and love and protect the water. When I was young the Ohio River was a smelly cesspool, but these days, though it is still brown with runoff after a big rain, it is cleaner and friendlier to aquatic life. A minor victory, I would say, and people do swim, boat, and water ski in it. Swimsuits on the Anacostia or Potomac? Naw, but blue water from 10,000 feet? Yes, and that is surely progress.
