What would you suggest for Bass fishing a new Pond?
I haven't been Bass fishing in quite a while. The weather has been bad so my offshore fishing has been limited. I was told of a lake that has Bass in it. Plastic Worms seem to be the weapon of Choice, but they are only landing smaller ones. The water is warm and the pond isn't all that big. I was thinking about just going for the gusto and hanging a live shiner under a Bobber. Think that will do the trick or would you go for the Artificial approach?
I'd do a little bit of both!
I'd bring 2-3 rods.
One rigged for floating 6-8" Shiners.
One rigged/designated as a "soft plastic" rod.
One rigged for Spinnerbaits.
If you want to catch the "Big Boys" concentrate on Shiner fishing.
Sidenote: I read a bit about your "room-mate situation". Hope things have improved? (What an absolute HASSLE for you!)

Well I hope the grass carp are Triploid kind that are sterile and dont reproduce . They diploid kind or regular grass carp ruin a lake Here is a site on them that will tell you what you need to know. Some weeds are good cover for bass and baitfish so keep that in mind
As far as catfish and other predatory fish I wouldnt recommend it is you want strictly a bass producing lake because they will compete for food. If not then yes catfish are ok to stock . Flatheads are very predatory they do help control the bluegill population and get big and I like them I just dunno about how they affect the bass . Channel cats might be a good choice but be careful with the catfish
I think it has potential to be a good bass lake with the depth it has in it . You need cover for the bass like christmas trees tree tops or something.
I would be careful what kind of minnows you stock in it , I would stock golden shiners as a a food for bass .
And also with the bluegill be careful what varieties you stock in there you dont want green bream or pumpkinseed bream . They are small and tend to over populate get stunted and raid spawning bass beds. Its worth it to get a Hybrid bluegill that gets large like GA hybrid Bream or Shellcrackers or Crappie might do well in there just remember that they compete with bass for minnows and food as well.
An areator might be an idea for the fish health and oxygen level at somepoint .
This is only my opinion I am no expert on stocking a lake but I have seen stockings go bad so be careful with the variety of fish you stock and the number of different kinds of fish you stock in there soemtimes less is better especially in a small lake . Its easier to add more at sometimes than it is to take them away. And make sure you have good cover and structure for the bass to hide and hunt in

I know of this annoyance. If you are like me when it comes to flying that bait into the hole, even the slightest backlash can throw off your odds of catching that prize. Without changing any gear. When casting improve on hitting target and method of casting, zero in on targeted area (where you want the bait at) do not lobb the bait with a casual throw that allows the line to drift in the wind,rather give a more deliberate snap that will provide speed for the bait to cut threw the wind. practice this. If this is not achieved,you may be using a to high or to low poundage line or that the line is old and likes to snag . My pref is 8lb line for bass. If you are using a thin rod(trout) jump up to a more stout rhino rod(medium length)this will alleviate some any of the above line problems. clean junk off of line each time some is present. throw that line with a purpose in mind.
