Bass Boat Clear Coat on top of glitter worn off?
I just bought an used bass boat. The hull is fine but the top part of the boat has a glitter finish that used to have a clear coat over it, but that has worn off. I can feel the rough glitter. How and what can i used to restore to some degree the clear coat. There are so many products out there that can paint clear but I would like to find what is best. Thanks. Also someone previously has drilled some holes along the top, what can i use to plug these. The boat is like a red wine color.
the texture is rough with glitter. I dont think sanding would help. Either power wash then reapply clear coat or sand down to base the reapply glitter and clear togeather.
If its already down to the glitter yur screwed, no matter what you do its gonna look funky, first you need to know how fiber glass is laid up, its done from the outside in, in a mold, the clear gel coat is applied first then the glitter and color coat then all the fiber glass, inside out so to say, then broken free from the mold and what you see is the shiny part that was laid first. not that you cant get that glitter look back, its just a ton of work and not a job for a novice, it would require respraying the glitter coat then applying many coats of clear while sanding between each coat of clear for a smooth finish, very labor intensive, and as I said not a job for a novice, I'm sure you've seen some custom cars with that paint motif. and no it wasn't cheap, other than that there's some very good synthetic urethane automotive paints out there that are every bit as good as gel coat if not better. its just there not applied from the inside out.
