hey. This is my first posting and so I hope someone can help me out.?
I seem to be stuck with the following maths question. (GCSE). Its probably quite straight foward... anyway here it is..
In a speed trial a sand yacht travelled a measured mile in 36.4 seconds.
a) calculate this speed in MPH
b) Find his total time for the two runs
c) calculate the average speed of the two runs in mph
I will be very grateful if someone could answer this.

I FORGOT TO WRITE THIS
* on the return mile he took 36.16 seconds
A. mph
There are 3600 seconds in one hour.
One run is 36.4 seconds so divide 3600 by 36.4 gives a speed of 98.90 mph.
B. assume both runs are in the same time, two runs is simply twice one run answer is 36.4 times two equals 72.8 seconds.
C. once again I assume both runs are the same so average speed is the same for both runs which is again 98.90 mph.
Unless there are some diferent figures for the second run that you have not told us about.
EDIT..
In view of the fact he took 36.16 seconds for the return run.
B. Total time for two runs is 36.4 + 36.16 secs = 72.16 seconds.
C. average speed for the two runs is 72.28 seconds for two miles.
Is 36.28 secs for one mile.
3600 seconds in one hour.
So 3600 divided by 36.28 [time for one mile] = average speed is 99.228 mph.
