Well think of this. As a Sea Ray owner and having had several other brands of boats, it's hard to beat a Sea Ray. The Bayliner is an entry level boat. It's very basic for the most part. I've had friends with Bayliners and every one of they has sold them. As for resale value, Sea Ray wins hands down. The ride difference between the to boats is night and day, with Sea Ray winning every time. Both companies are owned by Brunswick Corp. Both are powered by Mercruiser, also owned by Brunswick.

Here's a brand and model with similar features to the Sea Ray, it's a Maxum 2400 SCR. The size is the same and will have the same things as the 215 Weekender. It's like Toyota (Bayliner) and Lexus (Maxum). The Maxum has the nicer items and finish is similar to the Sea Ray. Look around and see what's available. Don't be in a rush to buy a boat right now. Take your time. You're doing it the right way though. If at all possible, ask for the FULL service history on any used boats. Most owners will have the docs in a folder to give to the listing agent. The better the records, the more info that you'll have to be comfortable with the purchase. With the Sea Ray being 15 years old, make sure that the outdrive boot has been replaced recently.

A new boat is nice to have, but you'll save a bunch of money going with a pre-owned boat with little hours on it.

Check the year of the boat again! The 215 Weekender starts on the '96 model year and would be only worth $9700 at best. You sure that it's not a 5 year old boat? Then it would be worth closer to the $21k with a trailer. And the boat is an Express Cruiser, not a cuddy cabin.

Getting a boat is a great way to spend time together as a family. I’m probably around the same age as your son (senior in HS), and well I don’t get much time to spend with my family during the summer because I’m always with my friends, I almost always make time to spend the day out on the lake with my family. It’s always a great time to bond with my little sister and my parents, since it feels like you can talk about anything good or bad because it’s such a peaceful and beautiful scene out there that it’s hard to get mad. I’ve never been on a sailboat though, is it a big difference? I know if we had one we’d never be able to get much use out of it on Lake Minnetonka. By then way, we just got a new Sea Ray 370 and it’s amazing how much you pay for 4 more ft. I think our old ’09 Sea Ray 330 is worth about $185k with only ~40hrs, but the 370 we got is pretty much double that new. They depreciate really fast though, but u don’t about that ;)

4. prancing
5. eon
6. A/C
8. copy
9. Byrd (Admiral Richard E. – Arctic & Antarctic explorer)
10. laser beam

13. Scone
15. (In Major Leage Baseball?) AL = American League, NL = National League
16. mesa
17. oscillate

P.S. Who is "Jim" and why would we know about his appearance?

I worked for Sea Ray boats in engineering for 6 years and put my work experience to work living the life. On the hook just outside of Cocoa. Literally walked into shore but I lived very differently than most. I purchased a big flat steel barge, welded a superstructure on top, and had everything I needed locked AND hidden in special part of the boat. When I took off for 2-3 days on a trip and left the boat there was nothing insdie they could find or take of value. Now I Vanabode which is seriously way more fun, way safer, and provides WAY more variety than boat living.

Thanks, Debbie!! This is turning into a really fun project. I hope you had a wonderful birthday!! We were very disappointed with the boat show. It's been really scaled back. Sea Ray didn't have any boats there because Skipper Bud's didn't have a display. I guess it's a sign of the times. Stay warm!! Boating season is right around the corner!!

Kathy
